Membership
Becoming a member means joining a creative, supportive community of clay artists. Members enjoy 24/7 studio access, personal storage space, and use of our fully equipped studio; including ten Whisper VL wheels, large work tables, a slab roller, and a wide selection of glazes and slips.
Membership is best suited for potters with prior experience who are comfortable working independently. New to ceramics? We encourage you to start with a class and get to know the studio through our student open studio hours before transitioning into membership
About us
Tail in the Mud Pottery Studio is a welcoming, supportive space for creative people to explore ceramics. Opening in October 2025 in Waltham, MA, our studio was founded by Chin and Sabina with a simple goal: to give people the opportunity to play, learn, and create with clay.
Our name, inspired by the writings of the Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi, reflects our belief in choosing creativity and freedom over convention. Here, community, exploration, and muddy hands are all part of the journey.
We look forward to welcoming you into the studio!
Classes & Workshops
Fall classes begin the week of September 29th and run through December. Class fees include instruction, 25 lbs of clay, glazing, and firing. Additional charges apply for work exceeding the included clay amount.
Students also have access to Student Open Studio Hours, where they can practice independently outside of class with support from studio staff. These sessions provide time to refine skills and receive light guidance on projects.

During open studio a staff member either a manager or instructor will be present and available to answer questions and offer support
Our Studio
Tail in the Mud is located at 30 Guinan Street, Waltham, MA 02451, next to Prospect Hill Forge and Metalwerx, just two blocks from Main Street. MBTA bus #70 from Central Square, Cambridge stops about a 10-minute walk from the studio, and the Fitchburg Line Waltham Commuter Rail stop is less than a 20-minute walk away. Moody Street, about a mile from the studio, offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops. Street parking is available; please note that the parking lot next to the building belongs to Metalwerx.
